UPEK and RSA combine biometrics and tokens to secure laptops

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

Biometrics vendor UPEK and security provider RSA have collaborated to deliver several products that form the basis for biometrics-based multi-factor authentication using embedded RSA SecurID technology.

Here’s how it works: An administrator issues a SecurID token seed to a user and has a fingerprint enrolled for biometric match. To authenticate to the system, the user swipes his finger on a USB peripheral or built-in fingerprint reader, and upon a successful fingerprint match, a token code is generated for use with an RSA Authentication Manager server. [end]
