Gemalto Inc. and Microsoft Corp., Redmond, Wash., have announced .NET smart card technology with support built into Microsoft Windows Server 2008. France-based Gemalto also announced its support for Windows Server 2008 with its Strong Authentication Server and family of two-factor security devices.

These solutions are designed to strengthen Windows Server 2008 security for enterprises and help protect digital identities, secure data and applications, and address the security risks of user names and static passwords.

There is also the built-in support of Gemalto .NET smart cards to the Windows platform. This integration enables the cards to work seamlessly with Microsoft’s Terminal Services, Active Directory Domain Services, Active Directory Federation Services, Active Directory Certificate Services, smart card login and the powerful new virtualization features, while eliminating the need for middleware integration.

Gemalto’s security devices available for immediate use with Windows Server 2008 range from one-time password tokens to its latest Smart Enterprise Guardian. The SEG is a joint development with Lexar that provides up to 2 gigabytes of smart card protected data storage and Gemalto .NET software for strong authentication and digital signature in one USB device.

SPYRUS reports FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification

SPYRUS Inc. has received a third FIPS 140-2 Level 3 verification for its Hydra Privacy Card, the first and only commercial product of its kind. The USB encryption devices have already received the certificate 1179 for file-based encryption and certificate 1320 for the SPYCOS crypto core, as well as the certificate 1394 for the XTS-AES sector-based encryption devices.

Microsoft patches finally released to address SSL/TLS vulnerability

Gemalto chosen for Home Trust EMV card implementation project

The Canadian Visa vendor Home Trust has selected Gemalto to manage its migration to EMV smart payment cards. Up until now the company has supplied only magnetic strip payment cards. With the support of Gemalto, Home Trust will begin issuing the new cards through pilot programs in Ontario.
