SCM unveils new USB token

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

SCM Microsystems Inc. announced CHIPDRIVE MyKey, a new USB device designed to make it safer and easier for people to access the Internet and information networks.

The technology is based on smart card technology. The CHIPDRIVE MyKey stores passwords, credit card numbers and other sensitive information. It works with an application that fills in username/password logins and online forms. Users insert it into a USB slot on a PC or notebook and enter a PIN to answer login password requests, access personal data and easily fill in online forms to streamline shopping and other interactions with Web-based services.

CHIPDRIVE MyKey is an alternative to remembering multiple passwords and can be used anywhere. The device holds the encrypted information instead of the PC, so once the device is removed from the USB drive the information is not available to anyone else.

The CHIPDRIVE MyKey package includes the CHIPDRIVE MyKey USB Token, a pre-cut CHIPDRIVE Masterkey 24k chip card and accompanying software on CD-ROM. [end]

The South Eastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority (SEPTA) is indefinitely delaying deployment of a smart card-based transit system due to inadequate funding, according to metro.us.

SEPTA will not receive the $110 million in Act 44 state funding next year needed to deploy the system. Furthermore, SEPTA said it will have to impose a 5 to 6 percent fare hike to make up the difference, raising the cost of a token from $1.45 to $1.53.
