Gemalto supporting Windows 7 biometric framework

Gemalto has extended its support for strong authentication on the Windows 7 platform using its .NET Bio solution. The solution enables multi-factor authentication using biometrics by building on the foundation provided in the new Windows Biometric Framework (WBF) for Windows 7.

Gemalto is demonstrating its .NET Bio solution with biometrics on a Windows 7 platform in the Microsoft Partner Pavilion at RSA 2009 in through Thursday, April 23rd, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.


Gemalto .NET Bio is a solution that enables organizations to enhance network security and protect online identities by replacing passwords with strong authentication using Gemalto .NET smart cards and Precise Match-on-Card fingerprint biometric technology. By leveraging the smart card and biometric support built into Windows 7, Gemalto .NET Bio is easier to deploy and manage than solutions that require installation of middleware.

In Windows 7, Microsoft is introducing the Windows Biometric Framework to provide native support for fingerprint biometric devices through a new set of software components. [end] 

Gemalto announced the launch of ProtivaMedSecure, a solution package that addresses one of challenges facing health care providers: a secure digital identity.

Gemalto’s Protiva MedSecure provides a portfolio of authentication software, digital credentials, secure devices, servers and associated services. The Gemalto solution provides a single credential for secure visual identity, as well as physical and logical access to medical facilities and electronic medical records.

Al Bilad Bank, a Shariah-based financial organization in Saudi Arabia, has deployed Gemalto’s Dexxis Instant Issuance solution for EMV payment cards in more than 120 bank branches. With this system, Al Bilad can issue up to 2,000 EMV DDA high-end security smart cards a day.

Gemalto announced that it has been awarded a multi-year contract from the UK’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency to supply 40 to 80 million secure Sealys documents for a variety of official permits. These include digital tachograph cards, the next generation of polycarbonate driver’s licenses, and biometric residence permits, in a multi-year contract.
