UPEK announces new fingerprint readers

UPEK, a developer of fingerprint biometric solutions, has announced the release of two new fingerprint scanners called EikonTouch 300 and EikonTouch 700.

Both are connected to PCs via a USB annd feature a one-touch interface. The main differences between the two are that the 700, which is designed for use in the government sector, is intended for multi-user applications in mind and the 300, which is designed for use in rugged conditions, is intended as a cost-sensitive solution that is needed for harsh environments. [end] 

SmartMetric, a developer of portable biometric solutions, has announced that its biometric activated data card can now be used to contain full medical history and health records on the individual. The card, called the SmartMetric Data Card, is a standard sized card that has the capability of holding multiple pages of data as well as being inaccessible without the holder first scanning his fingerprint on the card itself.

CA Technologies announces the purchase of Arcot Systems Inc. in an all-cash transaction of $200 million. The authentication and fraud detection software company is said to prevent fraudulent transactions for close to a million online credit transactions daily.

UPEK, a developer of biometric solutions, has announced the release of a new version of their Protector Suite 2009 fingerprint sensor software that now supports the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system by incorporating support for its Windows Biometric Framework. In doing so, UPEK has assured that its software suite will now work hand-in-hand with any of the many fingerprint sensors also supported by the framework.

Apricorn, a developer of personal data storage technology, has announced the availability of new larger storage capacity offerings from their Aegis Bio line of biometric hard drives. The original Aegis Bio offerings had a storage ceiling of 250 GB, however the new offerings add on a 320 GB, 500GB and a 640 GB drive to the line of offerings.
