Realtime provides biometric computer security

Tampa, Florida-based biometrics developer Realtime North America is implementing its fingerprint-based biometrics solutions as a logical access control system to help secure computers of government organizations and companies both local and national, according to a Tampa Bay Online article.

The system, called bioLock, costs $100,000 installed and is designed to authenticate and track not only who is accessing the various systems it oversees, but for what length of time as well.

The fingerprint scanners Realtime suggests for their clients come embedded on keyboards and mice and matches the biometrics sample to given information supplied by the user.

Indian government looks to install biometric logical access control

The Ministry of Home Affairs in India’s government has decided to install biometric logical access controls on all its computers and has invited bids from companies to install 100 devices to accomplish this, according to an Express India article. While the primary purpose of installing the new technology is to stop unauthorized access to the agency’s computer systems, it is expected to record usage data of each authorized user as well.

New biometric application available for Windows

Luxund, a developer of biometric authentication software, has released a new biometric login application that is compatible with Windows Vista and both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7, according to a CNET article. The software, called Blink!, was previously only compatible with the Windows 7 32-bit version, but this new version also promises more stability, reliability and security than its predecessor.

Legiant, Fulcrum partner for time and attendance solution

Legiant has announced a partnership with biometric technology developer Fulcrum Biometrics that yielded a low-cost biometric time and attendance tracking solution for employers. The new solution is called FbF Timeclock and utilizes a virtual time clock that an employee clocks in or out via a USB fingerprint scanner connected to a computer and integrates with Legiant’s Timecard software.
