GlobalPlatform announces new contributing partner

ARM Ltd. has joined GlobalPlatform as a participating member assisting in the open security and software development for mobile and multi-application secure devices. Digital wireless, networking and consumer entertainment technology as well as security storage devices are among the products ARM services.

GlobalPlatform welcomes ARM’s help in standardizing security infrastructure for their various security applications. Securing financial transactions and applications such Pay-TV and communication will be ARM’s principle projects at GlobalPlatform. This advancement will strengthen GlobalPlatform Specifications image as a prudent choice for smart devices.


In addition to being the primary contributor to the Device Committee, ARM will serve membership on GlobalPlatform’s Mobile Task Force and the Advisory Council.

Since 2008, GlobalPlatform has released an estimated 305.7 million smart cards globally, while another two billion mid range USIM/SIM cards worldwide are estimated to use GlobalPlatform card technology to enable over-the-air (OTA) application downloads for 3G and GSM mobile networks. [end] 

Just one year after the releasing of the GlobalPlatform Card Networked Framework v1.0, which enables a smart card to intuitively connect to the Web, the standards organizaton announces the introduction of a Connectivity Task Force to address the increasing demand for even more comprehensive IP technology. It is the responsibility of the task force to drive GlobalPlatform’s integration of smart card technology into the IP arena.

GlobalPlatform has announced that it will hold a one-day card specification training session at The Langham Hotel, Hong Kong on March 16, to educate delegates on the benefits of adopting open and interoperable specifications for mobile UICC implementations. The session will coincide with Cartes in Asia, March 16-18, to accommodate delegates that are attending this new regional industry gathering.
