ClearCube releases new zero client smart card reader

ClearCube Technology has announced the launch of its I9424 PCoIP zero client with integrated smart card reader.

The ClearCube I9424 is a single client that enables smart card access to protected resources for task and knowledge workers.


According to ClearCube, the device was developed to satisfy global governments’ needs for secure computing solutions.

The I9424 features a tamper-proof rugged case and includes a port for a Kensington lock for additional physical security.

ClearCube is now offering a free trial of the new reader via the company’s website[end] 

GAO RFID has released a Wiegand-to-Ethernet RFID controller designed specifically for door access applications.

The network access controller, model 491018, is able to connect to any type of Wiegand reader such as magnetic stripe reader, RFID reader or fingerprint reader. It also offers a master card for adding or deleting access privileges directly from the external reader, thus acting independently without connection to a network or PC.

A variant of malware called Sykipot is circulating that purportedly enables it to hijack U.S. Defense Department Common Access Cards and Windows smart cards, according to Alien Vault Labs. This variant, which appears to have been put together in March 2011, has been seen in dozens of attack samples from the past year.

The Dutch Ministry of Defense (MoD) has chosen Identive’s SmartFold smart card readers to provide secure remote network access for its employees.

The agency has a lot of restricted and sensitive data that has particular management requirements. The MoD felt that the Identive contact smart card reader would provide the desired level of security, yet be flexible enough to incorporate into the existing network security infrastructure.
