Locke, Schmidt to attend NSTIC release

U.S. Commerce Sec. Gary Locke will be joined by Chair of the National Economic Council Gene Sperling and White House Cybersecurity Coordinator Howard A. Schmidt to release the administration’s National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC).

Hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the event will include a panel discussion with industry leaders and privacy advocates, as well as demonstrations of technologies being developed to improve online authentication.

The strategy is designed to be a a building block in the national effort to secure cyberspace.

NSTIC needs public, private partnership

A forum discussing the next steps in cybersecurity at Stanford University focused on the National Strategy for Secure Transaction in Cyberspace. U.S. Department of Commerce Sec. Gary Locke and Howard A. Schmidt, White House Cybersecurity Coordinator, both spoke on the importance of the strategy and how there needs to be a partnership between the government and private sector in order to make it happen.

$2M proposed for NSTIC steering group

The National Institute of Standards and Technology announced that it will support a steering group for the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace with $2 million in funding for up to two years to provide the group with ongoing secretarial, administrative and logistical support.
