Practical steps to keep your data secure in the cloud

Cloud computing is the new thing these days. Everybody wants in, and with the service being relatively new, there are bound to be problems.

ZDNet offers some simple steps to remember when trying to protect data:

  • Remember to make unique passwords that people will not guess.
  • Use numbers, random characters, to help make it something that a potential hacker could not guess.
  • Consider using two-factor authentication for your email inbox, because so much sensitive information is stored in this one place.

  • Consider using a very obscure password reset key. This can be the way in for malicious suspects.
  • Finally, always have a backup plan. Utilize a back up email account, or have a place to go for internet should your network become compromised.

E-security products provider Cryptomathic has released the Cryptomathic Cloud Wallet, which enables secure mobile payments through the cloud.

Rather than using payment applications that are delivered through EMV chips located in payment cards or on smart phones, the Cloud Wallet links a user’s payment methods and mobile devices to a secure networked platform.

Nevada-based multimodal biometric authentication provider BioID has announced that its webcam-based biometric recognition product can now be used for authentication to Intel’s Cloud SSO and McAfee’s Cloud Identity Manager products.

BT and Hitachi Europe Ltd. announced that they are jointly designing an identity management solution for the financial services market. In this move, BT is introducing BT Unified Trading federation, a cloud-based trust utility for secure identity exchange and will incorporate Hitachi’s Finger Vein Authentication Engine and technology to offer biometric security capabilities.
