SafeNet provides credentialing for employee-owned devices

Friday, July 15, 2011

Information security firm SafeNet has made its corporate mobile device credentialing solution capable of enabling consumer mobile devices.

SafeNet extended the capabilities of its credentialing system in an effort to address the challenges companies are facing with regards to employees using personal devices to access corporate networks.

“The security perimeter and devices that access it have changed dramatically, forcing organizations to re-think access to networks, especially with regard to mobile devices,” said Andrew Young, vice president of authentication at SafeNet.

SafeNet’s Authentication Manager enables companies to authorize individual personal mobile devices to access corporate networks through implementation of unified authentication schemes. Users can also set security policies and credentials for employee-owned devices. [end]

SafeNet announced that it has acquired Cryptocard, a privately held provider of cloud based authentication solutions. Financial terms were not disclosed.

With the acquisition of Cryptocard, SafeNet adds to its authentication portfolio. Cryptocard’s platform will provide an opportunity for mobile and telecom service providers, as well as IT system integrators and service providers, to introduce Auth-as-a-Service to their end users.
