GlobalPlatform announces 2011-12 board election results

Marc Kekicheff, Visa’s senior business leader of chip innovation, has been re-elected chairman of GlobalPlatform, the group that standardizes the management of secure chip technology. Uwe Wittig, group vice president, payment division for Giesecke & Devrient, will remain the organization’s vice chair. In addition, Yves Moulart, director of development and innovation for STMicroelectronics, will remain secretary/treasurer.


The four other members who were elected to the board for two-year terms include:

  • Jon Geater, chief technology officer for ARM;
  • Rémi de Fouchier, senior vice president, Gemalto;
  • Arnaud du Chéné, vice president, Chip Center of Excellence, MasterCard Worldwide;
  • Sebastian Hans, senior standardization manager, Oracle.

Other GlobalPlatform directors include:

  • Jerome Becquart, senior vice president, products and services, ActivIdentity;
  • Richard Orth, director of technology architecture, American Express;
  • Eikazu Niwano, senior research engineer, NTT Corporation;
  • Jean-Loup Dépinay, program manager, research and development, Oberthur Technologies.

    “GlobalPlatform continues to grow in both membership and influence. Since the beginning of October, six new members have joined the organization, bringing the total membership to 77,” said Kekicheff.

Shanghai Fudan Microelectronics Group has joined GlobalPlatform as the organization’s latest Observer Member.

The Chinese chip design company focuses on the development and manufacture of application-specific secure chips across multiple sectors, including automotive, mobile/telecoms and payment. In joining GlobalPlatform, Shanghai Fudan will bring a its knowledge and experience in the manufacture of secure chips for specific functions, further strengthening the organization’s membership base of chip manufacturers.

GlobalPlatform launched its latest specifications for the Trusted Execution Environment (TEE).

The organization has released two new specifications primarily for use by software developers working within the TEE space. The “TEE Systems Architecture v1.0” explains the hardware and software architectures behind the TEE, while the “TEE Internal API Specification v1.0” specifies how to develop trusted applications.

GlobalPlatform has launched its second in a series of online guides explaining the association’s current projects and technologies.

This new guide addresses the role of secure elements (SE) in mobile devices and GlobalPlatform’s involvement in this area of mobile security. The FAQ-style guide is free to view on the organization’s website.
