UPEK and RSA combine biometrics and tokens to secure laptops

Biometrics vendor UPEK and security provider RSA have collaborated to deliver several products that form the basis for biometrics-based multi-factor authentication using embedded RSA SecurID technology.

Here’s how it works: An administrator issues a SecurID token seed to a user and has a fingerprint enrolled for biometric match. To authenticate to the system, the user swipes his finger on a USB peripheral or built-in fingerprint reader, and upon a successful fingerprint match, a token code is generated for use with an RSA Authentication Manager server.
