Cloud increases need for managed authentication in Asia Pacific

As more and more companies migrate to the cloud, they are becoming more aware of the need for managed authentication services, reports ZD Net. However, companies are still wary of authentication providers in terms of reliability and ceding control.

Although companies want to migrate to the cloud, they’re not as willing to invest the money needed to truly protect themselves from hackers. Many find it’s too expensive to build their own systems in-house, and in terms of outsourcing, they worry about authentication providers going out of business, leaving them high and dry. 

Key Source launches integrated desktop keyboard

At the VARTECH conference, Key Source International will introduce a new desktop keyboard that integrates various authentication options.

The KSI-1700 line allows users to customize which authentication inputs they want in a desktop keyboard. Possible features include biometric fingerprint readers, NFC, contactless smart cards and secure session-locking walk away systems. The keyboard itself is a thin, ergonomic design.

The system is targeted mainly to the health care, government and banking industries. [end]

The American Bar Association’s Identity Management Legal Task Force and the Transglobal Secure Collaboration Project (TSCP) held a joint meeting to discuss ID management issues. Much of the discussion focused on liability, contracts and how an ID system should be structured. Tom Smedinghoff, a partner at Wildman Harrold and chairman of the ABA Task Force fills listeners in on the meeting and whether it will impact the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace.

GoldKey releases minidriver with two-factor authentication

MIssouri-based GoldKey Security Corp. has released a smart card minidriver that supports Microsoft Crypto APIs and can be integrated with PKI applications.

The minidriver negates the need for additional software or middleware, enabling users to deploy two-factor authentication for Microsoft Active Directory. The authentication factors combine a physical token with a memorized PIN and can be used locally or via remote login. 

Georgia rolls out smart IDs

Georgia has begun a nationwide campaign to provide its citizens with new smart ID cards that are designed to perform a myriad of applications, according to The Financial.

Introduced earlier this week to the staff of the Civil Registry, the cards will allow users to perform online signatures, register and change addresses, fill out declarations, sign contracts, register organizations and much more. 

Asia Pacific adopting two-chip ID cards

Governments in Asia-Pacific are planning to adopt the two-chip electronic identification (EID) card, reports ZDNet.

The two-chip card, also called a hybrid card, incorporates two different independently residing chip technologies on the same card. Generally, one is a contactless smart chip with an antenna, while the other is a contact smart chip.

Minneapolis-based Indigo Identityware has received verification from Citrix that its InSafe Strong Sign-on and InSession Strong Workflow Manager and Enterprise Single Sign-on software-only products are Citrix Ready.

The Citrix Ready verification signals a product’s capability to interface with Citrix’s virtualization, networking and cloud computing solutions. The Indigo products have been deemed compatible with Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp products and will provide identity authorization for virtual desktop access via Citrix.
