AuthenTec sensors included in new Fujitsu tablet

AuthenTec has announced its AES2660 smart sensor has been incorporated into technology developer Fujitsu’s new STYLISTIC Q550 tablet computer.

Further, the sensor, which has been embedded onto the back of the tablet and runs off the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system, offers one-touch security that eases its use to enhance security for mobile computing. Among the reasons AuthenTec’s sensor was deemed good fit for Fujitsu’s needs was the low-power and low cost for integration as well as its many packaging options. [end] 

EU smart card project complete

The final research report on smart cards was submitted to the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) at the end of July marking the completion of the biggest chip card research project in the European Union.

The results of the “BioPass” project lay the technical foundations for future electronic ID documents in the EU. There are estimated to be 380 million ID cards currently in circulation in the 27 EU member states with their total population of about 500 million.

E-commerce and payments processor First Data Corp has selected IronKey’s Trusted Access as an option for its customers of its First Data Internet Banking product.

First Data clients with the Trusted Access service will be able to meet the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) guidelines for new online security controls by acting as part of a layered security program. 

Apple's OS X Lion ships without CDSA and smart card support

Apple has decided to deprecate the Common Data Security Architecture in its new OS X Lion, reports The Mac Observer.

While users will still be able to use smart card services in Lion and utilize third-party options, the components and services will not be bundled into Lion. Customers can use their smart cards on OS X 10.6 and 10.7 as long as they have a supported Token for the smart card profile. 

Probaris launches Identity as a Service solution

Philadelphia-based identity software and services provider Probaris has gotten into the Identity as a Service (IDaaS) field with an offering that enables commercial enterprises, government agencies and government affiliated parties to issue PIV Interoperable (PIV-I) credentials.

The IDaaS solution works with Probaris ID Registration Authority for PIV and PIV-I to create an authoritative identity store that’s capable of mapping to extreme levels of assurance. When the two products are integrated, organizations can issue smart card and mobile credentials efficiently. 

Symantec reaches milestone in certificate issuance

In the quest for universal secure digital verification, Symantec Corp. has announced it’s issued over a quarter-billion digital certificates to verify user and device identity.

In a press release, Adam Geller, senior director, User Authentication, said that the volume of certificates issued reflects the company’s efforts in getting commercial and government organizations to understand how leveraging digital certificates can provide strong authentication features.
