Indigo Identityware and MorphoTrak have announced a collaboration to provide a biometric authentication product for the health care industry .

Biometric authentication can be problematic in the health care industry due to the industry’s hygiene standards. Fingerprints can be compromised from frequent hand washing and contact with chemicals, which provide challenges to fingerprint authentication. 

Qatar taps Gemalto

Gemalto announced Qatar’s Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology has selected it to deploy the Coesys eGov 2.0 solution for eGovernment in Qatar.

Using Qatari citizens’ national eID card as a strong authentication token, the solution will boost usage and enhance access security of their national eGovernment services portal – the Hukoomi. Qatar plans to expand the existing service to integrate more than 50 eGovernment initiatives over the next years.

Whether on a card or a handset, payments will be more secure

Like two trains speeding toward one another in the dead of night, EMV and near field communication seem poised for a collision in the U.S.

Rapid fire NFC announcements occur daily and reports that two major U.S. banks will begin issuing EMV cards to frequent overseas travelers suggest it is only a matter of time before the two technologies meet.

But will it be a collision or a meld? Most likely any type of NFC payment transaction will be as secure, if not more so, than a traditional EMV transaction. “EMV works better on a phone than it does in a card,” said Dave Birch, director at UK-based Consult Hyperion at the Smart Card Alliance Annual Conference held in May.

Kenneth Weiss, founder of Universal Secure Registry (USR) and developer of token-based authentication technology, has announced his latest technology will be able to utilize voice recognition and can be used on mobile phones, according to an IT World article.

Weiss sees the new technology, which operates as a three-factor authentication service, as a necessary security offering for cloud technology and financial transactions. A user would be identified by his voice, a PIN and a randomly generated number that would be attributed to him for specific uses upon the initial two-factor authentication. 

BeyondTrust launches cloud-based authentication services

California-based authentication services provider BeyondTrust has launched PowerBroker Identity Services, an authentication platform for cross-platform and cloud-based environments.

This product launch comes on the heels of its acquisition of Likewise Software, which gave BeyondTrust capabilities in inside perimeter privilege delegation and authentication and auditing management within the cloud. 

Experian adds to authentication and fraud detection portfolio

Experian released Precise ID for Customer Management, another product in its Precise ID portfolio of authentication and fraud detection services. This product adds more layers to its identity fraud detection capabilities in existing accounts.

“In today’s challenging credit environment, fraudsters are attacking organizations from many different angles. These strategies include using stolen identities to fraudulently establish new credit relationships or taking over existing accounts,” said Charles Chung, president of Decision Analytics North America at Experian.
