Apriva helps Android devices meet government security regulations with new SDK

Apriva, a provider of end-to-end wireless transactions and secure information solutions, has announced the release of a software development kit (SDK) enabling Android devices to be compliant with HSPD-12 security regulations.

The company says the Android SDK is meant to address a growing demand from the Executive Office of the President, the Office of Management and Budget, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense (DOD) to accelerate compliance with HSPD-12 beyond Windows Mobile and BlackBerry mobile devices.

This latest update to Entrust´s authentication platform offers users a single platform that delivers a range of authenticators on the market, provides secure access through mobile platforms for business and is designed to simplify the issuance and management of smart cards by integrating card and certificate management.

Lockheed Martin was the victim of a large cyber attack, however quick detection by employees thwarted the security breach on May 21. Lockheed Martin, an aerospace engineering company, holds the U.S. government’s biggest military contract, and thus a security breach here, could have devastating effects on the federal government.

Hackers may have gained access by copying the RSA SecureID tokens used by employees, the report states. RSA’s server’s were attacked in March and data was stolen

UAE taps Entrust for PKI-enabled IDs

The United Arab Emirates has chosen Entrust Inc. to provide PKI-based national ID technology to the country. The Emirates Identity Authority is providing smart national ID card to citizens and expatriates that aim to enhance the stability and safety of the people and government of the UAE.

The program is adopting PKI technology to position the UAE ID program with some of the most advanced technology available. By employing the latest visual and biometric security features and embedded PKI technology, the ID cards will validate the identity of each individual and provide strong authentication to applications. 

Federal PKI recommended for national health network participants

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services committee for security and privacy is recommending participants in the Nationwide Health Information Network initiative use digital certificates.

The digital certificates should meet the Federal Bridge Certification Authority standards and be issued by a certificate authority that’s a member of the Federal Public Key Infrastructure framework, according to Healthinfosecurity.com.

Combined passport and smart card credential empowers globetrotting police

When you’re chasing down international criminals, the last thing you need is a passport inspection slowing you down at the border.

That’s the idea behind the new travel documents issued to officers of the International Criminal Police Organization, or INTERPOL. With the new secure IDs, they can assist in transnational investigations or urgent deployments without the need for visas.

At its November 2010 general assembly meeting in Qatar, INTERPOL voted to enable its 188 member countries to provide special visa status for holders of the new travel document on official business for the organization.
